PART 1 — FABRIC & MATERIAL TECHNOLOGY
POLYESTER
The backbone fabric of modern soccer jerseys. Lightweight,
moisture-wicking, and quick-drying. Nearly every jersey made
after 2000 is 100% polyester or a polyester blend.
MESH
A breathable fabric with visible holes that allows air to
circulate. Common on side panels and underarm areas of
performance jerseys. Mesh jerseys need extra care when washing
because the open weave can snag easily.
PERFORMANCE KNIT
A stretch-knit fabric engineered for athletic movement. Softer
than traditional mesh, with built-in elasticity. Used on most
player-issue and high-end replica jerseys.
JACQUARD
A textured weave where patterns are knitted directly into the
fabric rather than printed on top. Club crests, tonal stripes,
and geometric designs on premium jerseys are often jacquard.
SUBLIMATED FABRIC
Fabric where the design is dyed into the fibers at a molecular
level. Cannot peel, crack, or fade easily. The entire pattern is
part of the shirt. Most modern teamwear and custom kits use full
sublimation.
CLIMACOOL (adidas)
Adidas ventilation technology. Uses strategically placed mesh
panels, vents, and moisture-wicking zones to keep the body cool.
Found on adidas authentic and replica jerseys since the early
2000s.
AEROREADY (adidas)
Adidas modern moisture-wicking fabric. Absorbs sweat from the
skin and spreads it across the fabric surface for rapid
evaporation. Replaced Climalite on newer kits.
HEAT.RDY (adidas)
Adidas premium cooling technology used on authentic match jerseys.
Designed to keep elite athletes at optimal temperature during
high-intensity play. The most advanced fabric tier in the
adidas football range.
DRI-FIT (Nike)
Nike’s signature moisture-wicking technology. Pulls sweat away
from the body to the fabric surface where it evaporates quickly.
Used across Nike’s football, basketball, and running apparel.
DRI-FIT ADV (Nike)
Nike’s advanced Dri-FIT variant. Uses engineered knit zones with
different densities for targeted breathability, stretch, and
support. Found on authentic player-issue Nike jerseys.
VAPORKNIT (Nike)
Nike’s premium one-piece knit construction. Minimal seams, ultra-
lightweight, and sculpted to the body. Used on top-tier Nike
authentic match jerseys.
MOISTURE-WICKING
The ability of a fabric to move sweat from the skin to the outer
surface. All modern soccer jerseys are moisture-wicking. This is
why fabric softener is dangerous — it clogs the wicking channels.
BREATHABILITY
How well air flows through the fabric. Measured by the number
and placement of ventilation zones. Higher breathability means
cooler body temperature during play but also more delicate
fabric that needs gentler care.
HAND-FEEL
The tactile sensation of a jersey when you touch it. Some jerseys
feel soft and cotton-like. Others feel slick and synthetic.
Hand-feel varies hugely between authentic, replica, and fan
versions. A key metric for collectors judging quality.

PART 2 — JERSEY TIERS & VERSIONS
AUTHENTIC / PLAYER ISSUE
The exact version worn by players on the pitch. Slimmer cut.
Premium fabrics. Heat-applied badges instead of embroidered.
Often uses the most advanced fabric technology. Usually costs
50-100% more than replica. More delicate and requires extra
care when washing.
REPLICA / STADIUM VERSION
The fan version sold at retail. Slightly looser fit. Embroidered
badges instead of heat-applied. Slightly heavier fabric. Built
to handle regular wear and washing better than authentic.
The version 90% of fans buy.
MATCH-WORN / MATCH-ISSUED
A jersey that was worn or prepared for a specific player in a
specific match. Match-worn carries the highest collector value.
Never wash a match-worn jersey — the dirt and marks are
evidence of authenticity and part of its history.
FAN VERSION / THAI QUALITY
Informal terms for unlicensed replica jerseys. Quality varies
wildly. Prints and badges on these often use cheaper adhesives
that peel faster and do not survive machine washing as well
as officially licensed products.
RETRO / VINTAGE
Retro: A modern reproduction of an older design. Usually
licensed re-releases.
Vintage: An original jersey from a past era, typically 20+
years old. Vintage jerseys require the gentlest care possible —
